In 2015, Scott Weinmann purchased Atchison Furniture (previously Extreme Value Mattress and Furniture) from former owners, Jack and June Bower. Scott wanted to make sure downtown Atchison, KS continued to be served with furniture that was not over priced, but was priced fairly. He believed that a thriving downtown was the heart of any community, especially those in small towns.
After a major tenant of the downtown mall closed after 35 years of business, Scott opened 5th St Mercantile at 501 Commercial. The purpose was to give everyone in the area to chance to decorate their house with great decor at prices everyone could afford!
By providing our customers with quality furniture, low prices, and friendly service, we have withstood competitors and economic hardships. Atchison Furniture Company has been proudly serving the Atchison area for years. We're a family-owned and operated furniture store that was built on a simple idea: families deserve quality furniture at honest prices.
Our owner started this business because they saw too many families paying inflated prices at big-box stores and chain retailers. By working directly with manufacturers and keeping our operations lean, we're able to offer the same name-brand furniture at significantly lower prices. That's not a sales pitch.
